Asbestos Awareness Course

Asbestos awareness training is legally required for anyone who may be exposed to asbestos containing materials during their working activities and those that supervise their work activities.
WHO IS IT FOR?
Asbestos awareness training is legally required for anyone who may be exposed to asbestos containing materials during their working activities and those that supervise their work activities. The training is also useful for anyone requiring a better understanding of the basic elements of asbestos in buildings and is a good “stepping stone” to more in-depth courses.
COURSE CONTENT
Asbestos Awareness course content is governed by Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and includes the following elements:

The properties of asbestos and its effects on health, including the increased risk of lung cancer for asbestos workers who smoke;

The types, uses and likely occurrence of asbestos and ACMs in buildings and plant;

The general procedures to be followed to deal with an emergency, for example an uncontrolled release of asbestos dust into the workplace; and
-
How to avoid the risks from asbestos, for example for building work, no employee should carry out work which disturbs the fabric of a building unless the employer has confirmed that ACMs are not present.
The content of this course can be tailored to customer’s specific requirements.
ASSESSMENT
Delegates are required to complete a short multiple-choice exercise to demonstrate an understanding of the course subjects.
QUALIFICATION AND CERTIFICATES
Successful completion of the course will demonstrate a basic awareness of asbestos and compliance with Regulation 10 of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012. All delegates who successfully complete this course are issued a Asbestos Awareness Training Certificate of Competence and Achievement and a “credit card” sized photographic ID card of which are valid for 12 months.

ASSESSMENT
A short assessment of 15 questions is included with a pass mark of 80% required to successfully complete the course.
COURSE LENGTH AND CERTIFICATES
The IATP Asbestos Awareness e-learning module will take approximately 120 minutes to complete. On successful completion of the course, delegates are supplied with a IATP Certificate for Asbestos Awareness (Category A).
